In the automotive world, safety is often discussed in terms of airbags, crash test ratings, and advanced driver-assistance systems. But for Hyundai Motor America, safety extends far beyond the sheet metal of their vehicles. It’s a commitment to the wellbeing of the communities they serve.

In the automotive world, safety is often discussed in terms of airbags, crash test ratings, and advanced driver-assistance systems. But for Hyundai Motor America, safety extends far beyond the sheet metal of their vehicles. It’s a commitment to the wellbeing of the communities they serve.

That commitment was once again demonstrated through a vital collaboration with the Baystate Health Foundation at a recent car seat safety check event held at Gary Rome Hyundai in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

The Critical Danger of Incorrect Installation

What’s the single most effective way to protect a child in a vehicle? The car seat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that proper car seat use dramatically reduces the risk of fatal injury: 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

Yet, nearly half—about 46%—of car seats are installed incorrectly.

This is where the partnership between Hyundai and Baystate Health Foundation makes a real difference. At their third safety check event, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) provided free, hands-on support:

  • Secure Installation: They guided parents and caregivers through the correct process of installing and using the car seat.
  • Vital Checks: They inspected seats for expiration dates, checked for manufacturer recalls, and ensured the proper fit for the child.
  • Free Replacements: Crucially, families in need received free new car seats to ensure their children had the best possible protection.

“By continuing our partnership with Baystate Health Foundation, we are proud to empower families with the knowledge and tools they need to protect their children and drive with confidence,” said Cole Stutz, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America.

A Partnership That Delivers Peace of Mind

The collaboration is powered by Hyundai Hope, the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative dedicated to improving society’s wellbeing. As part of this latest effort, Hyundai donated $25,000 to the Baystate Pediatric Trauma Surgery Injury Prevention Car Seat Program.

This funding is a direct investment in healthier tomorrows for children in the community, according to Kathy Tobin, interim vice president of philanthropy at Baystate Health.

Since the partnership began in 2023, the Baystate Health Foundation has successfully distributed more than 220 car and booster seats to local families in need.

By continuing to provide this essential education and resources, Hyundai and the Baystate Health Foundation are giving parents, grandparents, and caregivers the confidence that their most precious passengers are riding safely and correctly.

Safety is a shared responsibility. What community safety events would you like to see more of in your town?
