Genesis Magma Racing, the ambitious new entrant to the world of endurance racing, is wasting no time in building its championship-contending lineup. The team has announced the promotion of two promising drivers, Frenchman Mathys Jaubert and Spaniard Daniel Juncadella, to its factory Hypercar program for the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
This promotion marks a significant milestone for the team’s “Trajectory Program,” a development initiative designed to fast-track top talent from junior categories to the pinnacle of endurance racing. Jaubert and Juncadella will be making their Hypercar class debut in the Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001, joining the already-confirmed veterans André Lotterer and Luis Felipe “Pipo” Derani.
From Prototypes to the Pinnacle
The decision to elevate Jaubert and Juncadella comes after a stellar performance in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) this season, where they’ve been driving a Genesis Magma Racing-supported LMP2 car with IDEC Sport. Alongside their teammate Jamie Chadwick, the pair have demonstrated exceptional pace and racecraft, securing three class wins and currently sitting second in the ELMS championship standings with just one round remaining.
Their success has been immediate and impressive. They won their LMP2 class on their debut in Barcelona and followed it up with an outright victory at Le Castellet. Most recently, their win at Silverstone highlighted their ability to perform under pressure in constantly changing conditions. Jaubert’s raw speed was also on display at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he set the fastest race lap for his LMP2 car.
Cyril Abiteboul, Team Principal for Genesis Magma Racing, praised the drivers’ rapid progression. “The target for the Trajectory Program was always to support drivers and give them the opportunity to prove they could step up to our WEC lineup,” he said. “That we are already in a position where we can bring Mathys and Dani in for 2026 is a massive credit to them.”
A Mix of Youth and Experience
The new additions bring a dynamic blend of youthful ambition and seasoned experience. At just 20 years old, Mathys Jaubert (FIA Silver-rated) has rapidly climbed the ranks, with a background in Porsche one-make series where he secured a win in the highly competitive Porsche Supercup this year. His swift adaptation to Prototype racing has been a revelation.
Daniel Juncadella (FIA Platinum-rated), on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience from his time in various GT and single-seater championships. A former FIA Formula 3 European champion and winner of prestigious races like the Macau Grand Prix, Juncadella has also competed in the LMGT3 class of the WEC for the past two seasons. This experience will be invaluable as the team embarks on its maiden Hypercar campaign.
Gabriele Tarquini, Sporting Director for Genesis Magma Racing, believes this blend of talent is a key to success. “Their relative lack of experience in Prototype racing will be balanced by the other four drivers in our lineup to give us a great mix of experience, and new drivers to Hypercar who are hungry and motivated to win,” he stated.
Preparing for the Future
Both Jaubert and Juncadella will now join their new teammates, Lotterer and Derani, for upcoming tests with the GMR-001 Hypercar. This early access is crucial for them to not only get comfortable with the car but also to contribute to its development ahead of their 2026 WEC debut, which is set to begin in Qatar.
As Juncadella puts it, “It’s perfect as well to do it with Genesis Magma Racing, to be starting from scratch with a brand that will hopefully be in the championship for many years.”
The “hyperspeed” culture at Genesis Magma Racing is all about taking calculated risks for great rewards. By promoting these two talented drivers, the team is making a bold statement about its confidence in its development program and its readiness to compete at the highest level of endurance racing.
