It’s official: Kia has reached a massive milestone in Australia, selling its one millionth vehicle. This isn’t just a number—it’s a clear sign of the brand’s incredible growth and staying power in a competitive market.
The landmark vehicle, a new Tasman X-Pro Dual Cab pickup, was sold at Motorama Kia in Queensland. This is especially fitting, as the Tasman pickup is a new model specifically designed for the region. The sale not only celebrates a historical moment for Kia but also highlights how the company continues to evolve and meet the unique needs of Australian drivers.

A Journey of Growth
Kia first entered the Australian market back in 1988 with the Rocsta. It was a slow but steady start, taking three decades to reach 500,000 sales by 2018. But something shifted after that. In just seven short years, Kia doubled its total sales, reaching the one million mark. This rapid acceleration proves that Kia has truly hit its stride, building momentum and trust with customers.
According to Damien Meredith, CEO of Kia Australia, the brand has “thrived in a competitive and dynamic market, backed by products that have evolved to meet changing expectations.” It’s this focus on innovation and customer trust that has fueled Kia’s success.

Looking Ahead
With a growing lineup of award-winning models, from the popular Picanto and family-favorite Carnival to the new Tasman pickup, Kia continues to deliver vehicles that suit the diverse needs of Australian drivers. Beyond its current lineup, the company is already focused on the future.
Tae-Hun (Ted) Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Operations at Kia, emphasized that this milestone is just the beginning. With plans for new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) models and an expanding electric vehicle (EV) range, Kia is committed to building on this success in the years to come.
This one million sales milestone isn’t just a look back at Kia’s history in Australia; it’s a look forward to what’s next.
