Hyundai Motor Company is aware of the recent immigration enforcement action at the construction site of our supplier, the HL-GA Battery Company, in Bryan County, Georgia. We are actively monitoring the situation and working to understand the specific circumstances.
Based on our current understanding, none of the individuals who were detained are directly employed by Hyundai Motor Company.
At Hyundai, we are committed to following all laws and regulations in every market where we operate, including employment verification and immigration laws. We expect the same high level of commitment from all our partners, suppliers, and contractors.
The safety and well-being of everyone working at our sites is a top priority, whether they are direct Hyundai employees or working for one of our partners. We take our responsibilities as a corporate citizen seriously, and this incident highlights the critical need for strong oversight throughout our entire supply chain and contractor network.
In light of this event, we are reviewing our processes to ensure that all parties working on our projects maintain the same high standards of legal compliance that we hold ourselves to. This includes a thorough vetting of the employment practices of all contractors and subcontractors.
To strengthen our oversight, Chris Susock, our North America Chief Manufacturing Officer, will now assume governance of the entire megasite in Georgia. We will also conduct an investigation to ensure all suppliers and their subcontractors are in full compliance with all laws and regulations. Hyundai has zero tolerance for those who do not follow the law.
As we continue to invest in American manufacturing and create thousands of jobs, we will do so in a way that fully aligns with U.S. law and reflects our values of treating all people with dignity and respect.
