September marks National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s a time for us all to reflect on the progress made and the work still ahead. At Hyundai, this month holds a special meaning, as it’s when we celebrate the incredible efforts of Hyundai Hope on Wheels®. For 27 years, this organization has been a beacon of hope, leading the charge against pediatric cancer with the support of Hyundai Motor America and its U.S. dealers.
This year, the celebration was bigger than ever. At our annual gala in Washington, D.C., we announced a $27 million commitment to continue this vital work. This brings our total lifetime giving to an incredible $277 million, a testament to the unwavering dedication of everyone involved—from our executives and dealers to the researchers, doctors, and families we support.
The Numbers Tell a Story of Progress
Over the past 27 years, the impact of Hyundai Hope on Wheels is undeniable. The funds we’ve helped raise have made a profound difference, increasing the childhood cancer survival rate from approximately 75% to 85%. This isn’t just a number; it represents over 40,000 children whose lives have been saved.
As José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said, “Hyundai Hope on Wheels and helping fight childhood cancer has become an essential part of our community outreach.” This mission is no longer just a U.S. effort—it’s expanding globally.

A Global Mission of Hope
This year marked a significant milestone with the launch of Hyundai Hope on Wheels in Canada and Mexico. Our Canadian partners, in collaboration with the NHL, have already donated $2.9 million to advance pediatric cancer care. In Mexico, we’ve allocated $694,000 to help leukemia patients by funding new research, treatments, and essential hospital equipment.
And we’re not stopping there. In 2026, we’ll extend our mission of hope to Europe and India, bringing us closer to a world where every child fighting cancer has the resources they need.

From Research to Survivorship
At the heart of Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a commitment to the entire journey—from diagnosis to life beyond remission. At our fourth annual survivorship summit, we brought together grantees and partners to discuss the progress that helps thousands of children lead active and healthy lives.
As Dr. Dan Wechsler, a board member of Hyundai Hope on Wheels, shared, “Ensuring well-being and maximizing quality of life for survivors is more important than ever.” We’re proud to champion an organization that invests in every step of a child’s recovery and future.
Handprints of Unity
Throughout this month, we’ll host nearly 70 of our signature Handprint Ceremonies across the country. These events are incredibly powerful, as children, doctors, and our partners place their painted handprints on a Hyundai vehicle. Each handprint symbolizes our shared commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer. It’s a powerful visual reminder that we are all in this together.
