Kia is once again making waves in the design world, this time with its innovative PV5 WKNDR Concept. The groundbreaking vehicle has just been awarded a prestigious Silver Award in the Automotive & Transportation category at the 2025 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).
This accolade is a testament to Kia’s forward-thinking approach to mobility and its “Opposites United” design philosophy, which blends sustainability and functionality with emotional design.
What Makes the PV5 WKNDR Concept a Winner?
The Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept is more than just a vehicle; it’s a versatile platform designed for adventure and self-sufficiency. Inspired by Kia’s new lineup of Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs), it offers a flexible, modular interior that can be easily customized to fit a variety of needs.
A key innovation is the ‘Gear Head’, a first-of-its-kind off-board storage solution. This clever feature provides a sheltered space for your gear outside the vehicle, freeing up the interior for living or sleeping. For the culinary adventurer, the ‘Gear Head’ can even transform into a mobile pantry, allowing you to “cook with a view.”
The concept is fully self-sufficient, incorporating solar panels and unique hydro turbine wheels that can recharge its batteries in even the most remote locations. The interior also prioritizes sustainability, with flooring made from Nike Grind, a material derived from recycled sneakers.

A Meaningful Recognition
In response to the win, Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design, expressed his gratitude. “Recognition from IDEA is a great honor, demonstrating the impact and value of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy in guiding our future design vision,” he said. “Awards such as this recognize the dedication of our global team but also motivate us to continue to innovate and further strengthen Kia’s commitment to bringing products that are relevant and meaningful to our customers.”

The Prestige of an IDEA Award
The International Design Excellence Awards are one of the three most significant design awards in the world. For nearly half a century, IDEA has been recognizing thoughtfully developed products across various fields, including automotive, branding, and technology. A world-renowned panel of over 40 judges evaluates submissions based on criteria such as design innovation, aesthetics, benefit to users, benefit to society, and benefit to the brand.
Winning an IDEA Award is a significant achievement, and the Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept’s Silver Award solidifies its place as a leader in innovative and sustainable vehicle design.
