Hyundai Motor Company is ready to redefine the automotive world. At its first-ever CEO Investor Day held outside of Korea, the company’s leadership unveiled a bold new growth strategy, positioning Hyundai as a global leader in mobility and innovation. Speaking in New York, CEO José Muñoz outlined a comprehensive plan to achieve ambitious goals by 2030, from electrifying its vehicle lineup to transforming its manufacturing process.

Electrification at the Forefront

Hyundai is accelerating its transition to electric vehicles (EVs), with a clear goal of becoming a dominant player in the global market. The company aims for 5.55 million vehicle sales by 2030, with a staggering 60% of those sales being electrified vehicles—that’s 3.3 million units. This growth will be led by key markets in North America, Europe, and Korea.

To achieve this, Hyundai is expanding its hybrid and EV offerings with a lineup of new models. Genesis will introduce its first hybrid vehicles in 2026, and a next-generation hybrid version of the popular Hyundai Palisade is on the way. The company is also launching its first mid-size pickup truck in North America before 2030.

Beyond North America, Hyundai’s EV strategy is tailored to different regions. New models like the IONIQ 3 will target mass-market customers in Europe, while a new EV designed specifically for local drivers will be introduced in India. The company is also developing Extended Range EVs (EREVs) that will offer more than 600 miles of range, effectively eliminating range anxiety. The high-performance N lineup will also expand to more than seven models, including a new IONIQ 6 N.

Software-Defined Vehicles and Advanced Technology

Hyundai isn’t just building cars; it’s building the mobility experience of the future. The company is accelerating its shift to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), where software is separated from hardware to allow for rapid updates and a highly customizable user experience.

At the heart of this strategy is Pleos, an in-vehicle operating system that will power next-generation infotainment systems. These systems will offer features like multi-window functionality, user profiles, and an in-vehicle marketplace for third-party apps, creating new service-based revenue opportunities. Hyundai is also leveraging AI to enhance the driving experience, with systems for autonomous driving, intuitive voice interaction, and advanced fleet management.

Global Manufacturing and Financial Strength

To support its ambitious product plans, Hyundai is investing heavily in its manufacturing capabilities. The company’s Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia is set to reach a production capacity of 500,000 units by 2028. This expansion, along with new plants in India and Ulsan, South Korea, will increase Hyundai’s global production capacity by an additional 1.2 million units by 2030.

This growth is backed by a strong financial strategy. The company has announced a KRW 77.3 trillion ($55.7 billion) investment plan over the next five years, a significant increase from its previous guidance. This investment will focus on R&D, strategic investments in future technologies, and localized production. Hyundai also reaffirmed its commitment to a Total Shareholder Return (TSR) of over 35% from 2025 to 2027.

“We’re not just adapting to change—we’re leading it,” said José Muñoz. “Through our commitment to electrification, our investment in software-defined vehicles, our focus on manufacturing excellence, and our dedication to treating every customer like an honored guest, we’re building the mobility company of the future.”
